It was the year..

Law 675/96

The year was 2003, namely 24 March of that year.Guarantor for the Protection of Personal Data, an independent administrative authority established by the so-called Privacy Law as far back as 31 December 1996, promoted a greater awareness of consumers, citizens, individuals about the protection of “Privacy” or “Protection of Personal Data”.

Today watching this video, ten years after its first airing, it is almost embarrassing to remember that the protection of personal data is not yet a right, but often it is a conquest.

For the writer, who was born as a consultant on the processing of personal data before the approval of theLaw No 675 of 31 December 1996; A nostalgic thought goes to the discussions he had with professionals of professional associations, who at the time claimed that ‘privacy’ would make his professional life impossible.

Time passes, the world evolves and with it also the laws; and the famous 675/96, not to be confused with the other distant cousin 626/94, was repealed and superseded with the entry into force of the Personal Data Protection Coded.lg. 196 of 30 June 2003.

Soon this law will also be superseded, probably with the transposition of a European Directive or rather it would be with the application of a European Regulation. In the case of the European Regulation, I have my doubts that Italy would be able to apply it painlessly, given the all-Italian ability to complicate the simple and take fireflies for lanterns.

At this point what to say: It was better when it was worse; and the biggest problem in terms of personal data protection (or privacy if you are English-speaking) was the ‘signature at the supermarket’. Happy Anniversary.
