Training of workers

Legislative Decree 81/08, known as Consolidated Text on Health and Safety at Work, defines a ‘worker’ as a person who works under the direction and control of an employer, with the aim of ensuring his or her own and others’ occupational safety and health. This definition goes beyond simply identifying who is performing work, as it establishes a regulatory framework that imposes a number of tasks, rights, duties and responsibilities.

Tasks and Responsibilities

The worker has the task of actively contributing to the prevention of occupational risks, respecting the company's safety provisions and procedures. Among its responsibilities is to properly use work equipment, personal protective equipment (PPE) and immediately report to the employer any dangerous situation that could compromise your own or the health of others. In addition, it is required to cooperate with the employer, the competent doctor and the workers' safety representatives, to identify and minimize risks.

Rights and Duties

The worker has the right to work in a safe and healthy environment, to be informed and trained about the risks related to his activity and to be protected through appropriate preventive measures. You also have the right to refuse to perform tasks that pose a serious and immediate risk to your safety or health. On the other hand, the worker has a duty to comply with company safety and health standards, to participate actively in training and to contribute to the culture of safety in the workplace.

Training

One of the main provisions of Legislative Decree 81/08 concerns the training of workers in the field of health and safety. The employer is obliged to provide adequate training, which must be regularly updated, so that the worker can recognise the risks of his working environment and adopt safe behaviour. The training shall include information on specific work-related risks, on the correct use of PPE, and on emergency procedures, such as fire evacuation. Training must be provided both at the time of recruitment and whenever there are changes in tasks, equipment or business processes.
